PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency

Purpose

The PGY2 Critical Care pharmacy residency programs will build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care of other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Program Expectations

• Serve as a co-preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY1 residents
• Provide educational in-services to clinical hospital staff including, but not limited to, physicians, pharmacy, nursing, and respiratory
• Participate in multidisciplinary hospital committees
• Recognize areas for quality improvement
• Design, implement, and analyze outcomes of research
• Clinical staffing in the Emergency Department every 3rd weekend

Longitudinal Experiences

• Project – includes 1 major research project and 1 minor project (i.e. Medication Use Evaluation)
• Nutrition Support (Includes 1-week Bootcamp)
• Clinical Staffing- Emergency Department (every 3rd weekend)
• Critical Care Precepting – includes longitudinal code blue response, longitudinal nutrition support precepting, and at least 1 PGY1 resident on a monthly ICU experience
• Critical Care Leadership and Management – includes Quality Improvements, Medication Safety, and Drug Shortage Management
• Interdisciplinary Presentations and Practice Education – includes one required continuing education, 2 journal club presentations, and 4 progressive case presentations
• Teaching certificate available

Salary/Benefits

• Annual stipend $63,784.50
• Paid time off (PTO): 20 days will be accrued which may be used for personal days, sick days, or professional interviews. At the end of the residency, any PTO time not used will be paid out to the resident at their hourly rate.

• Three letters of recommendation with at least one from a critical care or emergency medicine preceptor. Please have at least one letter of recommendation address your abilities/experiences with emergency (code blue) response and nutrition support.
