It is with great pleasure and pride that the Department of Internal Medicine submits for consideration Dr. Kristie Liao for the 2026 Alper Award. Kristie has an infectious positivity that truly enhances the lives of those around her. Her smile never fades and she carries the banners of advocacy, compassion and empathy with her in all her endeavors. I want to specifically point out that in the current atmosphere enveloping our society and profession, we all benefit and need Kristie’s optimism and dedication to patients. Since COVID we have seen increasing rates of burnout and pessimism, but you would not know that when you see Kristie treating patients and dealing with her peers and co-workers. The epitome of “grace under pressure” and “that which does not kills us but makes us stronger” personify her life changing positivity and compassion.
I have provided some narrative examples of the qualities seen in Kristie that are representative of the Alper Award from her evaluations and other submissions. I would like to provide them below for the committee to consider: Overall, impressed with the ease at which Dr. Liao can connect with patients and families to make them feel at ease.
Dr. Liao does excellent work. She is reliable, consistent, and well-liked by her patients.
Very hard working and dedicated. Knows patients well and pays attention to all the details, making sure her patients receive the best care.
In closing, we are asking that you award Dr. Liao the Alper Award because she embodies all the qualities it represents. We can think of no better resident or physician.
