What is Nephrology?

Nephrology is a branch of medical science that deals with diseases of the kidneys. A kidney transplant is a surgical procedure placing a kidney from a live or deceased donor into a person whose kidneys no longer function properly.

Comprehensive Kidney Care and Transplant Services

Erlanger is home to the region’s most comprehensive nephrology services — and the area’s only program to receive “best of” accolades from U.S. News & World Report. We also offer the region’s only kidney transplant program. Recently marking 25 years of saving lives, our program utilizes the latest minimally invasive techniques and has a record of patient outcomes that are among the best in the nation. Our multidisciplinary team works closely with referring physicians from throughout the region to assure well-coordinated diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with kidney disease.

Our Transplant Program Stands Apart

  • Shorter wait times –
Wait times for a new kidney at Erlanger are significantly shorter than the national average.
  • Laparoscopic Live-Donor Kidney Nephrectomy –
Erlanger performed the region’s first hand-assisted, laparoscopic living-donor nephrectomy, a minimally-invasive kidney removal procedure which allows quicker recovery.
