Bike Safety Tips
Schools out and riding bikes is a great way to exercise and explore the neighborhood. Protect children from severe head injury by teaching them to always wear a properly fitted helmet.
- Wear a helmet
- Find the proper helmet fit. The helmet should meet the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) standards.
- Ensure the helmet fits and your child can wear it correctly.
Fit Test
- Eyes check: Position the helmet on your head. When looking up, you should see the helmet's bottom rim. The rim should be two finger-widths above the eyebrows.
- Ears check: Make sure the helmet straps form a V under your ears when buckled. The strap should be tight, but comfortable.
- Mouth check: Open your mouth as wide as you can. Do you feel the helmet hug your head? If not, tighten the straps.
