About / Overview
Dr. Elizabeth Close is a Chattanooga native. She earned a degree in Biochemistry and Cellular/Molecular Biology in addition to a minor in Speech Communication at the University of Tennessee. She then travelled to the ‘west coast’ of Tennessee to attend medical school in Memphis, graduating with honors in 2007. She happily returned to the mountains of East Tennessee to complete her Family Medicine residency at Erlanger. She worked for Erlanger in private practice for five years prior to joining the faculty of the Family Medicine Residency. Her special interests include preventive medicine and caring for patients with diabetes.
She enjoys the variety being on faculty brings to her professional life. Dr. Close participates in the care of patients of all ages, from newborn nursery to the nursing home, in both the hospital and office settings. Other duties include teaching and mentoring residents, medical students, physician assistant students, and pre-med UTC students. She is board-certfiied by the American Board of Family Medicine.
Dr. Close enjoys spending time with her husband and three children (usually enjoying the zoo, aquarium, and the Riverwalk). Other interests are cooking, reading, and yoga if there is time.
