About / Overview

Dr. Mixon is proud to be a member of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology team at the Children's Hospital at Erlanger. He received his medical training at The University of Mississippi followed by Pediatrics residency at The University of South Florida. He completed his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Vanderbilt University prior to joining the team here in Chattanooga. In fellowship, he developed an interest in Pediatric Sarcomas and Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Although his fellowship-based research was lab-based, his real love was in direct patient care.

Moving his family to Chattanoga was an easy decision. Even though Dr. Mixon is a native of Mississippi, he has greatly enjoyed living in Chattanooga. He grew up attending summer camp in the area and spent several summers on staff at Alpine Camp for Boys in Mentone, AL. Finding a job in Chattanooga was a great opportunity to return to this part of the country that had been influental in shaping him in his formative years.

Dr. Mixon strives to provide top notch patient care in a family-centered, team approach. He is blessed to be surrounded by such a great team of colleagues. He serves as an Assistant Professor for the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. Additionally, Dr. Mixon strives to integrate his faith in Christ through excellence, service and compassion in his care for patients.
