Dr. Scott Steinmann serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery for the University of Tennessee College of Medicine – Chattanooga. He is also Emeritus Professor of Orthopedic Surgery Mayo Clinic where he was a staff surgeon for over 20 years.
Dr. Steinmann has held various leadership positions in the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery. He is a past president of the Minnesota Orthopedic Society. He has been selected as one of Minnesota Monthly Magazine’s top orthopedic surgeons for several years. He has performed several thousand shoulder replacements and rotator cuff repairs. At Mayo Clinic and now at Erlanger Orthopaedic Institute, he continues a practice of primary and complex revision shoulder surgery. He also has a special interest in elbow trauma, elbow replacement, and elbow arthroscopy.
He achieved the rank of Commander in the US Navy Medical Corps while assigned to the National Naval Medical Center prior to service at Mayo Clinic. He has given over 700 presentations nationally and internationally and has been an invited professor at many universities overseas. He is the author of over 160 papers published in the peer reviewed literature and over 95 book chapters. He is editor of nine books on shoulder and elbow surgery.
