Labor and Delivery - Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital
We grow families here. Parents have chosen us to welcome their little ones into the world for over 30 years.
We’re honored that the first moments you spend with your child will be under our care. Our Labor & Delivery team delivers experienced and highly-skilled maternal and infant care, with the well-being and comfort of mothers at the center of our work.
Our philosophy respects the journey of childbirth as a personal experience. Bonding between parents and infant can begin uninterrupted within a warm, homelike atmosphere.
From labor to delivery and finally recovery, mothers stay in the privacy of one of four birthing suites, each with a private bathroom, in-room sleeping accommodations for a significant other, telephone, flat-screen television and cable, and Wi-Fi Internet.
Erlanger Western Carolina Hospital's birthing services cater to natural childbirth, medicated deliveries via epidural anesthesia, vaginal delivery and cesarean sections. The medical team is equipped to handle both low and high risk pregnancies, and our providers are certified in external fetal monitoring as well as neonatal resuscitation. Circumcision is also available as an optional procedure.
Our staff is trained to assist mothers with initiating breastfeeding if they choose to do so after birth. A pediatrician will perform a follow-up to provide newborn care on site.
- Visitation – During this precious time we realize that loved ones wish to visit with mother and baby after birth. The department allows flexible visitation hours to accommodate friends and family. We set no limit on the number of visitors allowed inside the rooms during labor and delivery. However, we ask that parents be mindful of our family-centered approach toward the birth experience. Significant others, as well as your support team, are allowed in the room with you. We simply ask for discretion for the sake of safety.
- Admission – The front desk in the main lobby of the hospital handles all registration during regular business hours. Patients will be directed to the Emergency Room department for registration after hours.
- Discharge – We recommend all expectant parents to come equipped with a car safety seat for their infant upon leaving the hospital.
- Free classes – Pregnancy and Prepared Childbirth classes are offered at no charge.
