William L. Jackson Jr., MD, MBA
President and Chief Executive Officer
William L. Jackson Jr., MD, MBA, serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Erlanger Health System. In his current role, the seasoned healthcare executive oversees one of the largest public health systems in the United States. In his previous role as Erlanger's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jackson was responsible for oversight of Quality, Safety, Erlanger Medical Group, Physician Services, Research, Medical Affairs, and inpatient and outpatient care delivery for the health system. He also focused on advancing a clinical agenda that supported Erlanger’s 975-member medical staff and outcomes critical to their success.
Before joining Erlanger in 2015, Dr. Jackson served as Chief Medical Officer for Alexandria Hospital and Associate System Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Effectiveness for Inova Health System. During his tenure at Inova, Dr. Jackson had several additional roles, including practicing as an intensivist at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He also led the Inova Telemedicine Institute as Medical Director, and served as the first System Director for Adult Critical Care.
Dr. Jackson received his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and completed his postgraduate training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is a veteran, having served nine years with the United States Army. He completed his MBA at the University of Virginia. Dr. Jackson is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine, and is a Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians.
