About Chattanooga

Chattanooga, Tennessee’s fourth largest city, is situated on the banks of the Tennessee River and offers some of the most picturesque views and scenery in the southeastern United States.  With convenient access to nearby mountains and waterways, the city has become a destination for outdoor enthusiasts and tourists nationwide.  The city includes vintage Lookout Mountain tourist destinations like Rock City Gardens, Ruby Falls and the Incline Railway, as well as newer family attractions like the Tennessee Aquarium, Creative Discovery Museum, IMAX 3-D Theater, and Coolidge Park, a 6-acre riverfront park featuring a working antique Denzel carousel.

In recent years, Chattanooga’s striking riverfront redevelopment has led to a number of national and international accolades.  Outside Magazine listed Chattanooga among its “ten dream towns – perfect places to live big, play hard and work (if you must.”)  Family Fun Magazine labeled Chattanooga as one of the ten best family vacations in this country and Parade magazine featured Chattanooga on its front cover, with the heading “The Reborn American City; A Place You Might Want to Live.”  A Washington Post travel writer noted that “By reinvesting in its river heritage, Chattanooga is well on its way to becoming the prettiest city of its size in America.”

Among the other major attractions in the Scenic City are the Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge spanning the Tennessee River, the Chattanooga Riverwalk, a 22-mile public walkway next to the river,  the Southern Belle riverboat, Chattanooga Choo Choo complex, Chattanooga Zoo, Bluff View Art District,  Hunter Museum of Decorative Arts, and Bessie Smith Performance Hall.

The University of Tennesee at Chattanooga, one of the UT campuses, is also in Chattanooga and offers more than 100 bachelor’s degree, 46 master’s degree and 3 doctorate degree programs.  Other local institutes of higher learning include Chattanooga State Technical Community College, Covenant College, Southern Adventist University, and Tennessee Temple University.

In addition to the Erlanger Baroness Campus and nearby UTC, other leading employers in the downtown area include Blue Cross Blue Shield, TVA, and UnumProvident.
