Erlanger: Healing. Teaching. Leading.

When Naurice Daniels, of Chattanooga, underwent a computerized tomography (CT) scan last summer, she thought the test would help her pulmonologist, Suresh Enjeti, MD, of University Pulmonary Associates, find out more about some recent problems with her breathing.

Little did Ms. Daniels know that the CT scan would reveal a mass on her kidney.

After the CT scan, Dr. Enjeti quickly referred Ms. Daniels to Amar Singh, MD, with Academic Urologists at Erlanger. “I cried when Dr. Singh told me that I wouldn’t have to lose my kidney,” Ms. Daniels explains. “He said he would make five punctures in my abdomen, crush the tumor, and suck it out through a catheter.”

The minimally invasive surgery not only spared Ms. Daniels’ kidney, but also shortened her recovery time, as compared to the long recovery periods required by traditional open surgery. After a short hospital stay, the Glenwood resident returned home and soon returned to her daily activities, including morning walks with her sister, crocheting, and working in the kitchen at her church.
