Erlanger: Healing. Teaching. Leading.

Kim and Matthew Rehring were in for a quadruple shock this year when they learned they were going to have not one, not two or three … but four babies at one time. Aware of the risks of delivering four healthy infants, the Rehrings knew only one hospital in the tri-state region could manage Kim’s high-risk pregnancy and provide the highest level of neo-natal intensive care: Erlanger.
“I was in Erlanger for 9 ½ weeks waiting on my quadruplets to be born and during my stay I met lots of wonderful people,” recalled Kim. “The nurses and medical assistants went above and beyond the duty to make me comfortable,” she explained. “They took time to listen when I thought I just couldn’t make it anymore, they had special hospital gowns made for me, the doctors ordered an air mattress to help my back, and the dietary department went out of their way to bring me food I wanted.”
“When the babies were born, there were probably 30 people in the OR, but you wouldn’t know it with all the organization. It went so smoothly,” noted Kim, who almost made it to the 32-week mark before delivering Maggie, Sydney, Tommy and Patrick Rehring on June 9, 2007.
“The NICU staff at T.C.Thompson Children’s Hospital was wonderful as well,” said Kim. “The staff went over everything so we wouldn’t be worried as much; they loved and cared for our babies when we couldn’t be there and for us, too.”
Best of all, the Rehring infants flourished and went home much sooner than expected. “With all the care we received, we were able to bring our quadruplets home when they were four weeks old,” reported their grateful mother.
