Fast Facts about the Erlanger Health System

  • Erlanger has five Tennessee-based medical campuses: Erlanger East, Erlanger North, Erlanger Bledsoe, and the downtown campus, Erlanger Baroness, which also includes Children's Hospital at Erlanger T.C. Thompson campus. With approximately 5,000 employees, Erlanger is licensed for 813 acute-care beds serving patients from 50 counties within a 150-mile radius.
  • In fiscal year 2013-2014, Erlanger had 30,394 inpatient admissions, 230,765 outpatient visits to physician practices, and 28,810 surgical patients.
  • Emergency Care is available 24/7 at the Erlanger Baroness, North, Bledsoe, Children’s Hospital, and East campuses, and at a free-standing facility in the Sequatchie Valley.
  • Erlanger is a Level I Trauma Center for adults, providing the highest level of trauma care. Trauma surgeons are available at all times.
  • Critical care units include Shock-Trauma ICU, Medical ICU, Cardiac Surgery ICU, Cardiac ICU, Surgical ICU, Medical/Surgical ICU and the region’s only Neuro/Ortho ICU; as well as the PICU and Neo-Natal ICU at Children’s Hospital.
  • Surgical Services, inpatient and outpatient, are offered at the Erlanger Baroness and East campuses and Children’s Hospital.
  • Erlanger partners with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga to train tomorrow’s doctors. More than 170 residents and fellows participate in nine residency and four fellowship programs at the Chattanooga Campus based at Erlanger.
  • LIFE FORCE air ambulance service, stationed in Chattanooga and Sparta, TN, and Calhoun and Blue Ridge, GA, is equipped with two EC-135 aircraft, capable of single pilot IFR, and two Bell 407 aircraft. LIFE FORCE transported 1,419 patients in fiscal year 2013-2014.
  • The downtown Baroness campus houses EROC (Erlanger Regional Operations Center) a high-tech control center for emergency responders and pre-hospital care providers throughout the region.
  • Children’s Hospital at Erlanger is a Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center (CRPC), the highest state designation for pediatrics, with a full complement of pediatric subspecialists, a pediatric ER and  an ICU, and a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, providing the highest level of care in the region.
  • In fiscal year 2013-2014, 3,067 children were admitted to Children’s Hospital and 43,192 received treatment in the Emergency Department and outpatient surgery.
  • The Erlanger Baroness Campus offers a Tertiary Level III Care Center for high-risk obstetrics and labor and delivery services for low-risk patients. Erlanger East offers single room maternity care for vaginal deliveries, surgical facilities for C-sections and a Level IIA special care nursery.
  • Erlanger East launched an expansion program in 2015 to increase the number of inpatient beds from 43 to 107 and expand services to eastern Hamilton County. Completion of the expansion is expected in late 2016.
  • The Erlanger North Campus offers 12 inpatient beds, Sleep Disorders Center accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, sports medicine, physician offices, and the Senior’s Program, an inpatient unit addressing complex mental and physical problems associated with aging.
  • UT Erlanger Physicians Group, a partnership between Erlanger and UT College of Medicine Chattanooga and comprised of over 200 physicians and 25 practices, offers care ranging from family medicine to cardiology.
  • Erlanger Cancer Center offers an extensive clinical research program and the most advanced technology in radiation therapy, as well as a Resource Center, community outreach programs and support groups for cancer patients.
  • Erlanger has the region’s only kidney transplant program and offers the less invasive laparoscopic kidney removal.
  • Erlanger was the first Chest Pain Center in Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama, sixth in the U.S. accredited by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and Providers and 16th in the U.S. to earn the highest level Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI.
  • Erlanger operates the Chattanooga LifeStyle Center, the area’s first recognized center for preventive medicine, rehab, fitness, and educational programs.
  • The region’s first Wound Care Center, featuring Level 1 accredited hyperbaric treatment, is based at the Erlanger Baroness campus.
  • Erlanger’s occupational medicine program, WorkForce Corporate Health, is the region’s most comprehensive service for area employers.
  • Erlanger is the home of the Chattanooga Association for Pastoral Care, a clinical training program for area ministers and laypersons.
  • Erlanger offers the region’s largest hospitalist program with General Internists delivering 24/7 hour full-time inpatient care for patients.
  • Erlanger Southeast Regional Stroke Center is Southeast Tennessee’s first and only Comprehensive Stroke Center certified by the Joint Commission.
