The Medical Library is open to both Erlanger employees and the general public from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Library is not open on weekends.
After Hours Access to the Library is strictly limited to those medical personnel with a demonstrated clinical need to access specific reference material for direct patient care purposes only. This is the policy set forth in the JCAHO Standards for Hospital Accreditation. Currently, the only groups we approve for such access are physicians, residents, medical students and Erlanger CRNA School students. Security is an ongoing concern in libraries that offer after hours access. Theft of materials and misuse of computer equipment can be serious and costly problems. In order to protect the safety of our resources, we restrict after hours access to only those clinicians that the JCAHO Standards require. There are cases where physician extenders and nurses with specific patient care responsibilities after 4:00 pm or on weekends can be approved for a library access card. The Library Manager reviews these requests on a case-by-case basis. Contact Virginia Cairns if you would like to petition for special access.
The physical collections of the Library - textbooks and print journals - are available for consultation and photocopying by anyone during our staffed hours. Any member of the community, hospital patient or family member is welcome to come to the library and use our materials on site. Assistance will be provided to anyone wishing to locate specific information. Checkout Privileges are reserved for approved groups only (see Checkout Privileges section for details).
Computer Access is available on any of our 10 public access workstations. These machines are provided primarily for Erlanger employees, residents, and attending physicians. Members of the public and students from area schools are welcome to use the workstations during quiet periods, but may be asked to give up the machine if a physician or Erlanger employee is waiting.
