Chattanooga, Tenn. – On Saturday, May 4, dragons and warriors alike will descend on the TVA Park at Chickamauga Dam for a water war like no other. The purpose of this popular Chattanooga boating battle is to benefit Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.
Every year, the Children’s Hospital Dragon Boat Festival draws the attention of water enthusiasts and families alike to soak up the sights and sounds of friendly competition and community spirit. Teams will decorate tents, wear dragon boat festival apparel and cheer throughout the day. Spectators can watch all activities free, while children can enjoy a fun zone provided by PlayCore and Apex Inflatables. Food from CiCi’s Pizza will also be available to purchase during the event.
Dating back more than 2,300 years, Dragon Boat racing features teams of 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steerer in 46-foot long Chinese dragon boats, which race to the finish line. Paddlers of all ages, skill and fitness levels can participate, making it the ultimate team building sport.
This year’s presenting sponsor is Patten and Patten, Inc., one of the region’s leading investment firms. Paddlers and fans can still donate to The Children’s Hospital Foundation at Erlanger by visiting www.paddleforchildrenshospital.org. This year’s goal is to raise more than $150,000.
“Children’s Hospital Foundation works with the community to raise money to advance key projects and programs for patients and their families at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger,” says Ali Cobb, Director of Annual Giving for Erlanger Health System Foundations. “We are very thankful for the community’s support of this event and allowing us to provide the best care to our patients.”
The success of the event would also not be possible without the dedication of many volunteers. Individuals who want to provide support as a volunteer are encouraged to contact Kaitlin Cook at 423-778-3989 or e-mail Kaitlin.Cook@erlanger.org.
As the only medical center in the Chattanooga and tri-state region devoted solely to children, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger provides the best in children’s healthcare. Children’s Hospital is a Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center, the highest designation in the state for pediatrics. The hospital offers a full range of pediatric subspecialists, as well as a pediatric ER, ICU, and Level III neonatal intensive care unit, providing the highest level of care in the region for premature and sick infants.
