Children’s Hospital gears up for “Cycle for Miracles”

Chattanooga, Tenn. – This year’s Memorial Day weekend will bring thousands of cycling enthusiasts to Chattanooga to participate or watch U.S. cycling professionals during the national championships.  Now, enthusiasts can go the extra mile by riding with some of the professional cyclists during the inaugural “Cycle for Miracles” at Enterprise South on Saturday, May 25 at 8 a.m.

Cyclists can participate in 15-, 30- or 60-mile rides, either as an individual or team, while raising money to support Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.  All three rides are non-competitive with relatively flat and scenic terrain.  Riders will also be eligible to win a VIP trip for two to the 2013 Tour de France with airfare and accommodations by BikeToursDirect, or a custom-fit M1 bicycle from Litespeed.

Early bird registration is open through April 30.  Registration fees are $30 for the 15-mile, $40 for the 30-mile and $50 for the 60-mile rides.  Beginning May 1 the registration fee will increase $10 for each distance until event day on May 25.  Special incentives are also available for individuals who raise money for Children’s Hospital.

Contributions raised during the Cycle for Miracles event will go directly toward funding services at Children’s Hospital to care for sick and injured children in our region.

“Children’s Hospital Foundation ensures caring for our smallest and most precious patients is our number one priority. We target specific projects, programs, and equipment to better serve our patients, and never turn down a family based on ability to pay,” said Katie Jackson McCrory, Development and Events Assistant.  “We are so grateful for community support from events like this since it allows Children’s Hospital Foundation to continue funding innovative projects.”

Dr. Chris Haddock, a family-medicine physician at Erlanger South and cycling enthusiast, is riding in support of the care his son received after birth and in the neonatal intensive care unit.

“Four years ago, Rachelle and I were blessed with the birth of our first son, Grady,” said Dr. Haddock.  “The happiest day of our lives became one of the most agonizing after we found out he was born with a birth defect.  Fortunately, the wonderful doctors, nurses and support staff at Children’s Hospital were able to quickly and decisively correct this defect.  Following a week in the NICU, we were able to take him home and he has thrived ever since.”

Children’s Hospital Foundation would like to thank the following for their support of Cycle of Miracles:  USA Cycling, Volkswagen, United HealthCare, Outdoor Chattanooga, Litespeed Bicycles, BikesToursDirect, ScenicCity Multisport, WRCB-TV and Chattanooga Times Free Press.
