About Dr. Doty

Jesse Doty M.D.
Fellowship trained in Foot and Ankle Surgery

Dr. Doty is a Tennessee native who grew up in Rogersville where he graduated from Cherokee High School in 1999. From there he attended Carson-Newman University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Biology, graduating magna cum laude in 2003.

He then attended four years of medical school at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis where he graduated in 2007 with honors, including election into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

He spent the next five years completing his surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at The University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga, graduating in 2012. During this time he received the resident teacher award and the resident leadership award which provided him the opportunity to join the American Orthopaedic Association Emerging Leaders Program.

In 2013, he completed a one year foot and ankle surgical fellowship under the direction of renown surgeon Dr. Michael Coughlin at the Saint Alphonsus Foot and Ankle Clinic in Boise, Idaho. His experience during his fellowship year also included participation in surgery with Dr. Coughlin's partners, Chris Hirose M.D. and Travis Kemp M.D. In the summer of 2013, after the completion of his fellowship, he spent time in Los Angeles, California with Richard Ferkel, M.D. to gain additional insight into foot and ankle arthroscopy.

His clinical interests include complex lower extremity deformities and the use of external fixation for gradual correction of those deformities. He has undergone training in the use of the Taylor Spatial Frame System, as well as other external fixation systems. His surgical interests also include foot and ankle arthroscopy, lower extremity fractures, and chronic foot and ankle deformities. He takes emergency call and is experienced in the treatment of orthopaedic trauma. He has published multiple peer reviewed articles and chapters in the orthopaedic literature.

He is very excited to be back in Chattanooga, joining the university faculty and continuing to grow the University of Tennessee College of Medicine Chattanooga department of orthopedic surgery. He hopes to provide advanced and compassionate care to his patients and fellow Tennesseans, while contributing to the educational training of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. He is very excited to be partnering with the surgeons who he respected most during his training and who he continues to hold in high regards.

He enjoys spending time with his wife Cristin and their daughter Emerson. Other interests include mountain biking, road cycling, and snow skiing.
