The Sleep Disorders Center at Erlanger North is accredited
by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and utilizes the latest technology in
diagnosing and treating sleep/wake disorders such as insomnia, snoring, sleep
apnea, narcolepsy, periodic limb movements, dream enactment behavior and
restless leg syndrome. The highly specialized staff, led by Dr. Tallent, is
committed to successfully diagnosing and treating sleep disorders in both adults
and children, as well as neurological disorders such as headaches,
seizures/epilepsy and dementia.
Sleep disorders can not only prevent one from falling asleep, but also
staying asleep. They can also cause morning headaches, excessive sleepiness
during the day, high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, moodiness and
memory loss. While most sleep disorders are not immediately life-threatening,
they can result in serious medical conditions if left untreated.
Gabe Tallent, M.D., medical director of Erlanger’s Sleep
Medicine and Neurology program, specializes in the treatment of sleep disorders
and neurological conditions. Dr. Tallent graduated with a B.S. degree from Berry
College in Rome, Ga., and received his medical degree from Mercer University in
Macon, Ga. He completed his internship at Memorial Health University Medical
Center in Savannah, Ga., and his neurology residency at the University of
Florida in Gainesville, Fla. Dr. Tallent then trained as a fellow in sleep
medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, as well as a member of
