Volunteer Cohn wins Jefferson Award for Public Service

July 29, 2010

Erlanger Volunteer Herb Cohn has been named the winner of the Jefferson Awards for Public Service for July 2010 by WRCB-TV Channel 3, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and First Tennessee Bank, sponsors of the local award.

Watch Channel 3 Eyewitness News tonight at 6 p.m. and check out tomorrow’s edition of the Chattanooga Times Free Press for the official announcement of Herb’s honor. The Jefferson Awards for Public Service honor Chattanooga's local volunteers who do extraordinary things for their community, their nation or the environment.

Since 1997, Herb Cohn has devoted more than 3,500 hours of his time as a volunteer with the Erlanger Baroness Auxiliary. Herb says his favorite day of the week is Thursday—the day he volunteers to man the information desk at Erlanger.

But Thursdays are not the only days that he can be found at Erlanger. In 2009, for instance, Herb worked the information desk every day between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, continuing his annual tradition of volunteering so Erlanger employees can take time off from their regular duties to observe the Christian holidays.

Both visitors and employees appreciate Herb’s smiles and friendly greetings as they seek directions through the hospital. Congratulations, Herb!
