The Medical Library at Erlanger

Checkout Privileges

Checkout privileges are provided to Erlanger employees with a Kronos name badge. Employees who do not bring their badge as proof of employment will not be allowed to take materials home with them. The first time you check out a book, we will register you in the system and take down an address, phone number and email address. Thereafter all you will have to do is show your Kronos badge.

Residents, attending physicians and Erlanger Board of Trustees members are also eligible for checkout privileges. Some form of identification (driver's license, etc.) is sufficient to register you. Medical Affairs and/or the UT College of Medicine can verify your status for us.

There is no limit on the number of items a patron can check out at one time. We do ask that you avoid checking out several reference books on the same subject. We’d like to keep at least one book from each subject area on the shelf at all times. There are also certain reference books in each medical discipline that are considered "essential materials" and must remain in the library 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These bear a red and white label that says, "Not to be removed from this room". Journals do not circulate for any reason. The library has copy machines and a color scanner. Any page or image from a journal can be captured for you without removing the volume from the premises.

Overdue fines are charged at a rate of a nickel a day, up to a maximum of $5 per book. Once a book has been overdue for 3 months, you will be issued a bill for its replacement. Reference books go out for 3-6 days at a time, depending on the title. Prior editions of textbooks circulate for 21 days at a time. Renewals can be made over the phone by calling 778-7246.
