Volunteers continue to play an important part in the Erlanger tradition. From the beginning volunteers have added warmth and efficiency to Chattanooga’s premier hospital. Each year, Erlanger houses approximately 575 volunteers who spend more than 45,000 hours assisting patients and their loved ones. Whether you are a Red Cross volunteer, a member of the Auxiliary, or a high school student eager to help serve the community, Erlanger offers a variety of ways to serve the hundreds of patients that we treat each day.
Red Cross volunteers are highly visible at Erlanger while assisting patients, families andfriends at the Information Desk and when delivering mail and flowers to patient rooms. Their dedication to Erlanger is just one component to the Red Cross global mission.
The Auxiliary, formed in 1934, is the only volunteer group dedicated solely to Erlanger. In addition to funding specific medical items and projects, the Auxiliary offers incentive scholarships and awards to outstanding nursing students. The largest of their numerous service areas is the Erlanger Gift Shop inside of the Erlanger Baroness Campus.
The Independent Volunteer program is made up of university students pursuing careers in health care facilities.
The Junior Volunteer program is a summer program running June through August and is made up of middle and high school students(ages 14–17, 16+ during the school year ) who exhibit an interest in community service.
